Our History
Bramlett Imp. Inc. originally began as Barbee Implement, founded by D.R. Barbee, in 1934. At that time he moved his horse and mule trading lot from Edna Hill, Texas to Dublin, Texas. Mr. Barbee became a John Deere dealer in 1935. The first John Deere tractor was sold in that same year. Many times Mr. Barbee would trade for several teams of horses or mules each time he sold a tractor. He eventually purchased the Underback building, a three story building, and moved his business once again. The first floor housed the parts and service departments, as well as all the tractors. By way of elevator, all the farm equipment implements were stored and displayed on the second and third floors. As was the custom of the times, Barbee Implement was a family business employing two sons, a daughter, four nephews and numerous other relatives.
In 1943, Don Bramlett, father of present owner Donnie Bramlett, and D.R Barbee's son-in-law, purchased the John Deere parts department while other family members ran the various other parts of the family business. In the 1950s, all the businesses were sold to family members, with Don Bramlett buying the entire John Deere business and renaming it Bramlett Implement Inc.
Present owner Donnie Bramlett became a partner in Bramlett Imp. as two other stores in Hico and Stephenville, Texas were purchased and consolidated with the Dublin store to a new location on Highway 281 and Highway 377 in Stephenville. Don and Donnie operated the store at this location until 1974 when Don retired to continue his farming and ranching operation in Dublin.
In the early 1980s, a new facility was built on Highway 377 South and is the current location of the business today. Todd Bramlett, Donnie's son, has joined the business, making him the fourth generation to participate in the operation of Bramlett Implement Inc. Bramlett Implement has now served the farming and ranching community of Erath County for over 60 years.
